UJA Federation of NY Visits Orr Shalom

More than fifty of UJA Federation of New York's major donors recently visited Orr Shalom as part of New York's 90th Anniversary Mission to Israel. The group represented prestigious members of the King David's Society, donors who give at least $25,000 to the United Jewish Communities UJA Federation Annual Campaign. The visitors had the opportunity to spend time at Orr Shalom's Beit Goldshmidt facility, a home for adolescent girls ages 11-14 who have experienced extreme abuse and, as a result, suffer from severe behavioral problems. The guests had a chance to speak directly to the girls living in the home as well as staff who work one-on-one with these children. Furthermore, the visit included a tour of the school the children attend and a presentation on Orr Shalom's wide variety of programs.

Robin Bernstein, President of the Education Alliance in New York City, recently shared her heartfelt feelings about her experience at Orr Shalom in a letter to her board. She said:

"What struck me most was the unwavering commitment of the staff, who work 24/7 with the most difficult children, who have been kicked out of every other home and facility. At Orr Shalom they give up on no one."
